LGBTQ+ Alumni Association

The goal of this Association is to connect and engage LGBTQ+ Alumni and support current and prospective students, faculty, and administrators at Drake by advocating for and practicing inclusivity and empowerment.

Events & Opportunities

Look for LGBTQ+ Alumni Association events and opportunities throughout the year, such as a reunion during Relays and participation in the Capital City Pride Parade in Des Moines, and the annual Rainbow Welcome in the fall for incoming and current LGBTQ+ students and allies as well as faculty and staff. An advisory council of alums collaborates with Drake University to present events and foster connections within the community.

The Pride Alumni Fund

The Pride Alumni Fund is designed to support student's personal and professional development and contribute to a culture of LGBTQ+ education. Supporting the fund is an opportunity to ensure our students have an exceptional learning environment that prepares them for meaningful personal lives, professional accomplishments, and responsible global citizenship.

Volunteers

There are several volunteer and engagement opportunities available to connect with the LGBTQ+ Alumni Association. If you are interested in any of the below opportunities, please reach out to lgbtq@drake.edu to let us know and we can connect you.

  • Table at a student event: In order to support LGBTQ+ students and meet them where they are at, the Association tables at student events with a LGBTQ+ focus. This gives the Association face time with students and gives the Association greater visibility. Please let us know if you'd like to table at these events with us. Unfortunately, these student events are typically only held in the Central Iowa region.
  • Help to plan a regional LGBTQ+ Alumni event: We know that our alumni are all over the country so we have begun holding LGBTQ+ alumni events in some of our larger regional areas. At this time, we are focusing on areas where we have a critical mass of identified LGBTQ+ alums. Those areas are Central Iowa, Chicago, and the Twin Cities. Please let us know if you are interested in helping to plan an event.
  • Serve on a Committee: The LGBTQ+ Alumni Association has four committees that alumni can serve on. Please let us know if you are interested in serving on one of these committees. They are:
    • Alumni Engagement – Are you interested in engaging the Drake LGBTQ+ alumni community through events and initiatives?
Communications – Are you interested in helping get the word out about the LGBTQ+ AlumniAssociation and helping to celebrate our LGBTQ+ alumni?
Student Advocacy– Are you interested in developing programs and networking opportunities to support the interests of our LGBTQ+ students?
Development/Advancement – Are you interested in thinking about how LGBTQ+ alumni can give back to Drake through philanthropy?

In addition to the above volunteer opportunities, you can volunteer more broadly with Drake University. If you are interested, please fill out the form at the link below and we will get in touch with you.
