Back to Class: Fighting Fake News - How You Can Help Stop the Spread of Misinformation

With the proliferation of social media, where algorithms determine what you see and hear, echo chambers can make it harder than ever to determine what the true story really is. Misinformation can run rampant before traditional news media can catch up. Jennifer Konfrst, associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will cover questions like: What role do media play in combatting so-called "fake news"? How do you even define fake news? And how can consumers make an impact?

When: Wednesday, May 19 at 6:00 pm CT
Platform: Zoom (Link will be emailed to registered participants prior to the event.)

About the Program: Back to Class features speakers from Drake's campus in a virtual setting. Bulldogs are invited to join from wherever they are to learn about unique topics, hear from voices on campus, and connect with the Drake community.

For event accommodations or questions, please contact Amelia Klatt at amelia.klatt@drake.edu or 515-271-3378.
