Back to Class: The Election of 2020: Looking Back, Looking Forward

Dennis J. Goldford, professor of political science, will explore the political factors and dynamics that will provide the context and shape the November election. He will devote special attention to contemporary partisan divisions and voter-turnout factors. The event is hosted by the Central Iowa Regional Alumni Board and all alumni are invited to attend. Capacity is limited to 100 participants.

Dennis GoldfordDennis Goldford is Professor of Political Science and Department Chair at Drake University, and was the inaugural Flansburg Fellow in the Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement. He has been at Drake since 1985, teaching in the areas of political theory, constitutional law, and American politics. He received his B.A. in political science and philosophy from the University of Michigan, a Master of Letters (M. Litt.) in philosophy from Oxford University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Chicago.

Prof. Goldford has written three books. In 2005 he authored The American Constitution and the Debate Over Originalism, and in 2010 co-authored, with retired Drake colleague Hugh Winebrenner, The Iowa Precinct Caucuses: The Making of a Media Event, 3rd ed. His most recent book, titled The Constitution of Religious Freedom: God, Politics, and the First Amendment, was published in 2012.

Prof. Goldford has served as a political analyst for KCCI-TV and for a wide variety of local, regional, national, and international print and broadcast media organizations. During the 2015-16 election cycle, he gave nearly 600 media interviews. In 2017 he published an op-ed piece in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and thus far in 2018 pieces in the Kansas City Star and the Des Moines Register. Prof. Goldford is frequently invited to speak on politics and elections to business groups, clubs, and other organizations.
