Back to Class: Inside Above and Beyond Cancer with Drake Community Press

The creation of the book, Above and Beyond Cancer was a collaboration between the Above + Beyond Cancer organization and the Drake Community Press. The end result of the two-year effort turned out to be absolutely beautiful, thanks to the striking photography of Des Moines photographer Dylan Huey and the wonderful writing of more than 100 cancer survivors and caregivers who have taken part in Above + Beyond Cancer journeys over the organization's 10-year history.

During this Back to Class session, we'll hear from Carol Spaulding–Kruse, professor of English and Drake Community Press director and Dr. Richard Deming, medical director of MercyOne Cancer Center in Des Moines and founder of Above + Beyond Cancer. They will speak about the collaboration between the organization and the Drake faculty, staff, and students that went into the writing, design, and production of the book.

The book is a collection of stories that reflect the strength, perseverance and vast insight of those on the cancer journey.

When: Thursday, May 13 at 6:30 pm CT
Platform: Zoom (Link will be sent to registered attendees prior to the event.)
