Four Questions for Ashwin Sinha
Ashwin Sinha, class of 2022, finance and data analytics, didn’t have to come far to attend Drake (he’s from a suburb of Des Moines). But in his journey as a Bulldog, Ashwin has traversed many experiences and opportunities. Ashwin is involved with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Social Fraternity and the Phi Chi Theta Business Fraternity and he is a Student Ambassador to the Sehgal Foundation.
Why did you choose Drake?
Being from Des Moines, I never considered this local, small university. But after doing some research and working with current Drake students, I saw how advanced and presentable Drake students were. This, as well as a helpful boost from scholarships led me to Drake and I immediately fell in love.
What has being at Drake meant to you?
Attending Drake has allowed me to meet new people, rather than sticking to the same high school friends, and I’m so glad it has pushed me out of my comfort zone! I have made new friends from all over the U.S. and have professors who I can rely on for assistance or advice.
How has the Drake community been part of your Drake experience?
I would not have attended Drake if it wasn’t for the incredible Drake grads that wouldn’t stop talking about and hyping Drake. I noticed that these students were all so well connected around Drake, as well as the Des Moines community.
This past year, I had the opportunity to meet with many business executives all around the Des Moines area, and gained experience in networking, resume building, and overall character development. I even got the chance to pitch to Wells Fargo several ways to incentivize college students to bank with them!
How is Drake preparing you for life beyond college?
Drake has instilled a huge moral compass in me to strive to better myself, as well as maintaining the “Drake Busy”. Balance is a key aspect of life that I try to integrate into my everyday schedule, whether that be the relationship between my personal time and my work, as well as volunteering around #DSMUSA. Drake has also sparked something inside me to be engaged around the community and attend events that I might not have otherwise been interest in. This year, I had the chance to listen to renowned speakers present on topics ranging from immigration and citizenship laws to different NGO’s involvement in foreign affairs and issues. This exposure to community issues that were foreign to me prior to Drake has stimulated my curiosity to think of ideas to help my local community and beyond!
