Managing Wildfire in America: Cooperation, Coordination and Flexibility

A Collaboration with OLLI at Drake University

In 2022, close to 70,000 wildfires burned over 7,500,000 acres nationally. Management of these wildfires requires ongoing coordination and collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies. The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) is home to the national fire management programs of each federal fire agency along with partners representing all enties of wildfire and all-hazard incident management. NIFC brings these agencies together in a coordinated response.
