Net Community - Alumni Death Francis L. Gramenz 9/11/2017  
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in St. Paul's Church in Cambridge for Francis L. Gramenz of Newton, head of the music library at Boston University.

Mr. Gramenz, 42, died Wednesday at Brigham and Women's Hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Born in Independence, Iowa, Mr. Gramenz was educated in Salix, Iowa. He was a 1969 graduate of Drake University in Des Moines and received a master of arts degree in musicology from Boston University in 1971, a master's degree in library science from Simmons College in 1977 and a doctoral degree in musicology from Boston University in June.

Mr. Gramenz was head of the music library at Boston University since 1978. …

Greta (Anderson) Hogrefe, Pharm '04, and Clint Hogrefe welcomed a daughter, Betty Ann Hogrefe on August 9, 2017. She joins siblings Esther, 10, Packer, 7, and Luther, 5.

Holli Ewoldt Safley, BME 1974, retired last June, after teaching instrumental music for 42 years in Iowa public schools. She was a recipient of the Jay Wicker Distinguished Service award from the Northwest Iowa Bandmasters Association.

Jessica Ernst (AS 2006) authored the book "So You Want to Save the World: A Guide to Pursuing a Career in International Development" (available on Amazon). Each chapter is a thought-provoking question for the reader to answer, with a detailed discussion on options, criteria, and personal trade-offs, alongside compelling examples from Jessica and other development professionals.

Elizabeth "Buffy" Higgins-Beard now leads The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award USA as the CEO. The Award, the leading youth achievement in the world is currently running in 144 countries and territories and involves over 1 million young people annually.
